fun foods: the easiest unhealthy recipe!

This week Brand and I are staycationing/house-sitting/dog-sitting for my parents, one thing we are enjoying is t.v., yes we do not have cable... and no we don't even have the regular channels... some people think we are deprived... So you can guess this week has been pretty laid back, and I haven't discovered a fun recipe to share, but we did have some brownies last night and they were so good! I wish I had vanilla ice cream when I ate them! There is just something about brownies right out of the oven with nice cold ice cream on top! That just sounds so good, I'm making my self drool!

fun foods: a healthy smoothie

Hello friends! First off I want to start by saying THANK YOU for all the awesome comments I got this weekend! It really made my day! I mean SERIOUSLY! You guys are the best!
Second, I want to let you know that I have made my instagram private. I've had a lot of random people start following me (men specifically, I assume the women that are following me are fellow bloggers!) So I now only have a picture on my side bar but please feel free to send me a request!! (Did I mention I love instagram!! Just LOVE it!)

Anyways, how was your weekend?! Mine was pretty good! I spent some time running errands, and getting things done around the house! Also spent some time with family for Father's Day.

So, lets get to the point, I've got a smoothie I think you should try!

Healthy Smoothie
1 banana
1/2 an orange
1/2 a pear
1/3 cup of mixed fruit
Ice
and just enough apple juice

I recommend you mix it all the way so you don't have chunks like me! haha! I't was pretty good! The taste of the banana is the strongest and then I'd say the orange. It's really pretty good and I recommend you try it!

Do you have any good smoothie recipes?! Wanna share?!

fun foods: healthy breakfast

Top of the Tuesday morning to ya!
I've got a yummy breakfast snack that will fill you up and its actually pretty healthy!
As you all know I've been on this healthy kick lately, I'm just looking to eat better. It's amazing what eating healthy natural foods can do for you! A lot of my recipes come from Taralynn, she is great and has some awesome recipes! Take a look at her website, she has lots more!

What you need:
Bread (more healthy if you have whole wheat)
Bananas
Strawberries
Cinnamon
Stevia (sugar, much healthier sugar)

All you do is toast your bread, slice up a banana, slice up some strawberries, sprinkle some cinnamon and sugar (Stevia) on there and you are good to go!

If you try it, let me know what you think!!

fun foods: frozen yogurt

How was your weekend friends?! Mine was pretty good! I had some fun running and hanging out with Brand!
don't the weekends feel like they go by too fast!? I feel like we should have a four day work week and three day weekends! haha! Wouldn't that be so great!?

I have a delicious recipe that I found from Happy Together. Its a summer treat and it's pretty fun! (Sorry for the poor picture quality, I used my phone camera and it was night time so there was no natural light.)

All you need:
Your favorite flavors of Whips! Yoplait Yogurt.
Parchment paper
Baking pan

Place dollops of the yogurt on the parchment paper and then place the pan in the freezer.
I waited six hours before I ate mine and they were the perfect temperature.
Then you just take them off the pan, place them in a bowl, let them melt a little and there you have it!!

It kind of reminds me of 'Dippin' Dots' remember those?! They were my favorite!!!

fun with foods: oatmeal cookies... I use to think they were healthy!!

So I'm going to tell you the truth, when Brand is home I do not blog! This was the first weekend in a very long time that we were both home and didn't have plans so we made the very most of our weekend and that is why I have not posted anything spectacular.

I love oatmeal cookies and I wanted to share with you some yummy oatmeal cookies that I made.
(Is it bad that they were devoured in about two days?!)

I just used the recipe under the lid of our Quaker Oats container!

1/2 pound margarine or butter
1 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup granulated sugar
2 eggs
1 teasponn vanilla
1 1/2 cups flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon salt (optional)
3 cups Quaker Oats
Chocolate Chips (I just put a few chocolate chips on the tops of my cookies)

a tasty snack for a healthy.... back?? : popsicle recipe

Obviously I tried to rhyme this post title not sure it actually makes sense because this isn't just for a healthy back it's for a healthy body but your back holds up your body so maybe this makes sense! (notice I didn't put any punctuation in this because I was rambling) hehe! So lately I've noticed LOTS of people have been eating healthy! This is great! I'll have to admit about a month ago Brand and I decided we wanted to eat healthy too! I wanted to share this really great recipe with you that is so simple and tastes so good!

In Arizona it is getting pretty hot, if you follow me on instagram (@lyssadawson) you will see that I posted a picture of our 5 day forecast and it was not a very pretty sight, 106 by the end of the week. So we like popsicles!

What you need:
Any fruit of your choice, I have
apples,
and strawberries.
Lemonade (we use the Great Value Lemonade mix, with minimal amounts of sugar!)
Popsicle holders... (what do you call those things?!) haha!

What you do:
Put slices of your fruit in the popsicle holders, and then poor the lemonade in.
Once you are done put it in your freezer and they will be ready the next day!
It's pretty simple!

I get lots of my recipes from the Undressed Skelton, she is great! (And I'll be back with more next week!)

Fun Foods: Whoopie Pies are so addicting!

My husband and I LOVE whoopie pies!
If you haven't tried them then you really need to ASAP!
Not kidding.

I think we have made them almost every week for a few weeks straight.
Not what I call healthy but they are just so amazing!

So here is the recipe we use:

Cookie Mix:
1 box of Devils Food Cake mix
(just over) 1/2 cup crisco
2 eggs

Frosting:
2 cups powder sugar
1/4 cup butter
4 oz cream cheese
1 tsp vanilla
pinch of salt

Preheat oven to 375 degrees
bake for 8-10 minutes!
(oh and a little secret, when you take the whoopie pies out of the oven press them flat with a spatula.)

Let me know how they turn out!!

How do you eat your Ramen?!

First, Make sure I have my comfy's on!
Have my crochet supplies by my side

Boil water in microwave for 2 minutes 30 seconds
Take out of microwave and put the Ramen in the hot water.
Let sit for a minute.
Add the flavoring.

A Little Summer Treat

This weekend was my brother's farewell open house.
So you could say we were over at the fams helping get ready.
My mom makes the best treats!
She is such a great cook!
Every time I think of strawberries I think of the awesome strawberry dip that my mom makes.
I'm sure it is a pretty common thing to make but, I haven't heard many people making it.
It doesn't have a name but when you tell my mom
"Hey can you make me that strawberry dip"
She knows what you are taking about.

The recipe is very simple.
It is a one to one ratio of
cream cheese and marshmallow whip.
Just whip the two together, put them in the fridge over night and there it is,
your delish strawberry dip!

Homemade Ice Cream Takes How Long to Make?!

Ya know, whenever you ask your parent or grandparent about their childhood you always get the same story.

Back in their day they walked to school uphill both ways.
They worked the fields,
They grew their own food.
When they wanted special treats they had to make those too!
              {this includes ice cream}
They didn't have the luxuries like we do today.
They really did go through a lot!

So not that we worked hard for this little treat we made but, it was interesting to see how they would have gone about making something like making ice cream. The process was long and tedious.

Isn’t it crazy that you can make your own ice cream?!
And in order to make it you need a certain amount of each ingredient to make it really work!
The flavor ice cream we made was Reese’s Pieces!
Boy was it yummy!
Have a look for yourself!

Doesn't that just look delish?!
